Understanding the Seasons and Times of God:

God moves in divine seasons and timings and as prophetic people, we need to be in-tune with the seasons and times of God in heaven and on Earth. We need to not only know the seasons of heaven but know how to respond to that season in order to bring alignment into your life, spheres of influence and your church. Further still, we need to learn how to conduct ministry and function out of a revelation of the seasons and timings of God in heaven and Earth.

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4.2)

Consider the following verses:

"You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times". Jesus was responding to the Pharisees and other religious leaders who asked him for a sign from heaven (Matthew 16:3).

...of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command (1 Chronicles 12.32).

A time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace (Ecclesiastes 3.1-8).

The Hebrew understanding of time is different from our Greek mindset. The Hebrew time reflects a heavenly time and calendar. God works in accordance with His calendar and timings. God moves in seasons, because there are timings and seasons of God in heaven, and often we need fresh revelation to know what season we are in.

  • What is God doing in your life now?

  • What is God doing in church now?

  • What is He doing in your city now?

  • What season are you currently in?

We need fresh revelation of that season. But it is not good enough to just have revelation on the season. But revelation needs to be spoken for the hour you are in or entering into.

For example, you could have revelation about the cloud of glory (Ex 40.38), but we need to speak revelation for the hour. What if the cloud has moved into a new hour (Nu 19.17)?

The chronology of heaven’s time operates in chronological time which is chronos- this is general time. There is then the ‘now’ time, which is Kairos. Kairos is the designated now time and season within the chronos.

The nowness (Kairos) of God in where God is moving now in accordance with the divine seasons and time of heaven. These operates in different levels- micro and macro.

The Macro Level:

Is the moving of God and the breaking in of God and the seasons of God in time and space- the larger cosmic context. Easther was raised up macro Kairos in the history of the nation of Isreal.

The Seasons and Times:

As prophetic people it is vital that we know how to discern and interpret the signs of the times- the seasons in heaven. The sons of Issachar not only knew the seasons of heaven, but they knew what to do in those seasons, which means functioning out of both revelation and wisdom (Eph 1.17).

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:a time to be born and a time to die, a time to

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4.14).

There are heavenly markers in times and seasons; Boundary Stones to mark the seasons and boundaries between the seasons. There are markers in the spirit and in the seasons, for example, Azusa Street (1906-1915) was a marker in history. The Welsh revival (1904-1905) was a maker, as was the Reformation (1517) a maker.

Boundaries in seasons and times are reflected in heaven at a spiritual level. God establishes boundaries in heaven and on earth and in seasons.

Proverbs 22:28 the moving of an ancient Boundary Stone is considered a sin. This proverb, along with Deuteronomy 19:14, emphasizes the importance of respecting established property lines and not encroaching on a neighbour’s land. In the Old Testament, moving Boundary Stones was seen as a violation of covenant and a theft of property. There is also a spiritual element to this, because boundaries and markers between seasons and between the moving and timings of God are important and not to be moved. Boundary Stones were important in the Old Testament markers in the appointed seasons in time. satan wants to move the times and seasons of God. Satan wants the Boundary Stones between appointed times to be moved.

He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws (Daniel 7.25).

Nations have prophetic seasons and appointed maker stones, which as prophetic people we need to discern and interpret, as with the sons of Issachar.

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him (Acts 17.26-27).

You say, “I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm (Psalm 75.2).

As prophetic people, we need to be aware of the plans of satan, but also as with the sons of Issachar, discern the role of the church as the bride in each season upon the nations of the Earth.

The Mico Level:

Micro- the nowness of God breaking into lives, the suddenly now anointing and moving of the Spirit. ‘For such a time as this’ – but at a smaller micro level. Salvation for example is always Kairos.

As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, “In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6.2).

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior (Titis 1.3).

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah
(Revelation 12.10).

When God moves in the Kairos in the bible there is always a breaking in of the Kingdom of God in the earth- there is a supernatural element. There is authority in the now prophetic word because there is a revelation of the nowness of the moving of the Holy Spirit.

The nowness is the present reality of Jesus as the one who is. Not focusing on the one who was or is to come; but the one who ‘is’; The nowness of Jesus.

When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come” (John 2.3).

Jesus only done what he saw the father doing (John 5.19). The anointing of the Holy Spirit is for now. Jesus knew when the anointing was ‘present’ on him to move in healing (Luke 5.17). Jesus recognised the anointing for healing and brought the manifest anointing of the present hour into the physical realm and saw a tangible shift because he knew the hour was for ‘now’ and he moved in the supernatural Kairos.

The anointing is not meant for yesterday- last week or an hour ago but for ‘now’. Now God is doing this- Now God is moving over here. The nowness of God is breaking in, in accordance with the seasons and time of Heaven.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signalled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink (Luke 5.4-6).

Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish (John 21.4-6).

As prophetic people, we need to discern where God is moving for the now time Kairos. In the above two stories, Jesus discerned that it was a now time for a large catch of fish. The seasons had changed. In John 4, Jesus discerned the season was on the right side of the boat. The now was not on the left or in front or behind the boat- the now was on the right side of the boat. The now anointing was to put down the net again and on the right.

Drinking the Wine for Today:

Wineskins (seasons) for yesterday’s anointing cannot hold tomorrows anointing. Tomorrows anointing is greater than yesterday’s anointing. The anointing today is greater than the anointing yesterday. We cannot use yesterday’s wineskin to hold tomorrow’s wine. If we are still drinking the old wine, then we need a fresh touch from the Holy Spirit for today. Releasing the nowness of the Holy Spirit. Drinking the new wine.

Co-Labouring:

We can co-labour with God and impact the seasons and times of Heaven. Consider the following two verses:

When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come” (John 2.3).

It was not the right seasons for Jesus, however Mary had an impact of the timings of God. Mary went into intercession and was ready to accept a change in Jesus’s season due to His intervention.

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone (Mark 7.24-30).

Jesus’ season was not to the Gentile, but the Jew (Matt 15.24). It was not yet the hour for Gentiles (Romans 11.19), however, Jesus mission was suddenly expanded in that moment. Through the faith the future season was brought into the now present season. Intercession, faith and a positioning oneself for a change in seasons due to co-labouring with God in out of hour times. We have a role to play through faith in watching over the seasons of God.

Conclusion:

As prophetic people, it is important that we align ourselves and churches with the correct season and timing. The Hebrew word is mo’ed, which means an appointed time, an appointment, a fixed time or season.

There are three issues: knowing time and knowing your position in time and understanding your movement in relation to the time. Some examples:

  • Knowing time- the glory cloud is here.

  • Knowing your position- I am a follower of the God and he orders my footsteps.

  • Understanding your movement in time- I will follow the cloud until it rests again.

  • Knowing time- it is time to sow.

  • Knowing your position- watch over the crops and prepare the store house.

  • Understanding your movement in time- it is time to harvest what was sown.

We sow in season and we reap in season. We align ourselves with seasons of heaven and keep in-step the hour and times of God.

He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son (Proverbs 10.5).

Ask yourself on both the macro and micro level; nationally, internationally and both personally and in your church:

What time is it?

Where are you positioned in that time/season?

How do you know when to move with the time/season?

- Align with the season.

-Equip yourself and church to function in that season.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace

(Ecclesiastes 3.1-8).
